Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a holistic, safe method of pain relief. This treatment, steeped in traditional Chinese medicine, uses ultra-thin needles to reset the balance of energy, known as “qi” or “chi,” in the body. The needles may be placed at the site of pain or at a more strategic point to clear the body’s energy pathways. Acupuncture can be employed as a stress management tool, but it is most effective for those suffering with the following:

  • Chronic pain (neck, back, knee)
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Headaches and migraines
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Infertility

What to Expect

There is no preparation necessary for your first visit. At the initial consultation, we will discuss your concerns, assess your needs, determine the appropriate course of action, and complete the first session of treatment.

To begin treatment, you will sit or lie comfortably. When the needles are placed, you may feel a quick sting or light tingle. Once the needle reaches the appropriate depth, you may feel a dull ache at the site, but this sensation will soon subside. The practitioner may move, heat, or apply electrical pulses to the needle to stimulate effectiveness. Needle removal typically causes no discomfort at all.

  • Treatments generally last between 5 and 30 minutes.
  • People often find relief after 6–8 treatments over the course of 4–8 weeks.
